Xiaomi is very well known for the exceptional value that it offers for most of it’s products. The Xiaomi Mijia 4k Mini Action Camera is no exception.
Mijia is a brand that was purchased by Xiaomi some time ago in an attempt to solidify their camera related offerings, therefore the somewhat different name for this action camera.
The Mijia 4K Mini is using the Ambarella A12S75 processor and the Sony IMX317 image sensor with a F2.8 aperture. We have seen a similar setup on other affordable action Cameras from China like the SJCAM SJ7.
The great thing about the Mijia 4K is the fact that it achives somewhat better video quality for a lower price. You can find it at multiple retailers for under $100 and at this price it just kills all the competition.

Build Quality
The Mijia 4K Mini is made out of plastic but it’s not that type of cheap looking plastic that we have seen on many other action cameras. This one also has a 2.4″ touch screen on the back that has a resolution of 960 x 480.
The screen looks pretty good and has viewing angles but it doesn’t get crazy bright so depending how much sun is hitting the screen it may be a bit difficult to see it. The touch sensitivity is ok but not as good as you would find on a smartphone but appropriate and good enough to control the camera.
The only button available is the power button and that is also the recording or the ok button but everything can be easily done right from the touch screen.
The interface is very user friendly and everything is done with ease. Swipe to the right from the main screen and you can choose any of the mods available in there.
Each mode has it’s own set of settings and to access that you can press the little settings button at the bottom of the screen.
Swiping down you have access to a quick toggle menu and from there you can turn on the Wifi and access the general settings menu.
Connectivity
The Mijia 4K Mini camera can also be controlled from your smartphone or tablet over WiFi. To do that you need to download the Mi Home app and that is available in the Google Play Store or the iOS store.
The app is in English and i have been using it on my phone for quite some time because it also controls my security camera and my Xiaomi robotic vacuum.
From the app you can see everything that the camera sees up to about 10 metres away. The camera’s settings can also be charged directly from that app.
It’s also possible to view the pictures and footage recorded on the camera but in order to see them you have to first download them on the device.
Video Quality
The Xiaomi Mijia 4k Mini Action Camera can record in real 4K@30fps and the footage recorded during the day looks among the best i have seen from any action camera so far.
The camera can also record in slow motion but only in 1080P or 720P. The Electronic image stabilization works great as well but only for 1080P recordings. Unfortunately it cannot be turned on for 2K or 4K recordings.
I have included lots of daytime recordings samples in the video review posted below. There are also a couple of samples with the EIS on and with the EIS off.
The night time recordings aren’t as sharp and detailed as the daytime ones but it was to be expected. Most action cameras don’t do great in low light conditions and this one wasn’t any different. Once again you can find some sample recordings in the video review below and this way you can see for yourself if the recordings are up to your standard or not.
Of course, since this is a camera it can also take pictures. I loved the fact that it gives you the option to take 16:9 or 4:3 pictures and that is very important for someone like me.
The picture quality is also great if you have plenty of light but not amazing in low light conditions.
Conclusion
The Xiaomi Mijia 4k Mini Action Camera offers amazing value in it’s price range. Something similar would be the SJCAM SJ7 Star but that camera costs almost double.
It would have been nice if the camera would have came with a waterproof case but i guess that would have increased it’s price and that may not have been ideal for everyone.
Overall this is a great action camera that offers amazing value for it’s low price.
